The Story

True Democracy Fan Club

We are Tema Finest Football Team

True Democracy started as a non-league football club in 1984.

During those days, the team engages in friendly matches with other non-league teams, especially during weekends and holidays. Initially, matches were played against teams in the locality. Later, the matches were extended to teams outside the locality and sometimes the region. The essence of organizing those matches was to bring us together as often as possible and engage the idle youth who would have indulged in other unprofitable ventures.

The club was later registered with the Tema District Football

Association as a Division Three (3) club. It participated in the Division 3 league until it gained promotion to Division 2 in 2007. During that period, the club took part in the middle league for promotion to Division 2 on four occasions (1994, 1995, 1997 and 2001). It is important to note that between 2001 and 2005, the District Football Association did not organize any league. The district league resumed in 2005 and this time the dreaded middle league had been scrapped. The team missed the chance to qualify that year but in the (2006 - 2007) season, the club finally qualified for the Division 2 league after several years of trials.

Joining the second division, the team has remained as competitive as ever.

This culminated in winning the zonal league on 2 occasions. (2014 – 2015, 2015 – 2016). On both occasions, the team participated in the middle league for qualification to division one, but on both occasions the team missed the boat. Winning the zonal league on the two occasions also afforded the team the chance to participate in the G.F.A organized M.T.N FA Cup competition.

Suffice it to say that in the 2016 edition,

the team defied all odds to reach the 1/16 stage of the competition until they were eliminated by a well-drilled Elmina Sharks at the Paa Kwesi stadium. That was the day seventeen (17) buses of supporters traveled from Tema to Elmina to support the team. It was therefore no surprise when after the competition the club was nominated for best supporting club alongside Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak.
